Ovarian cancer Information
Ovarian cancer often occurs in ovaries after menopause. It is a common type of cancer among women in Hong Kong. There are nearly 400 new cases of ovarian cancer on average every year, accounting for 3.5% of all cancers among women, and deaths caused by ovarian cancer accounted for 3% of cancer deaths among all women.
Ovarian cancer symptoms
- Difficulty breathing
- Abdominal pain or distending pain
- Abdominal distension
- More frequent urination and pollakiuria
- Constipation
- Pain in pelvis, back and abdomen
- Loss of appetite
- Menstrual disorder
Ovarian cancer risk factors
- Never delivered a baby
- Premature ovulation
- Late menopause
- History of infertility
- Family history of ovarian cancer
- Having received hormone therapy or used ovulation stimulants after menopause
- Obesity
Diagnosis
- Ultrasound examination
- X-ray examination
- Blood test
- CT scan
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
Treatment
Surgical excision, chemotherapy and targeted therapy.
