Stomach cancer Information
Stomach cancer occurs in the gastric mucosa. There are different types of stomach cancers based on the cells where cancers arise, but almost all stomach cancers begin in cells that line the stomach.
Stomach cancer symptoms
- Persistent epigastric pain or distension
- Becoming thin and weak
- Loss of appetite
- Anemia and weakness
- Sharp loss of weight
- Vomiting
Stomach cancer risk factors
- Family history of stomach cancer
- Male
- Aged over 40
- Infected with helicobacter pylori
- Having undergone a stomach surgery
- Frequent consumption of preserved, overly salty or fatty food; low consumption of vegetables and fruit
- Suffering from achlorhydria
- Suffering from vitamin B12 deficiency
- Smoking and drinking
Diagnosis
- Gastric endoscopy
- CT scan
- Positron emission tomography
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
Treatment
Surgical excision, chemotherapy and targeted therapy.
